“At the moment, young people finance the pensions of the elderly. That is not the intention in the second pillar,’ says FDP national councilor Regine Sauter.

The announcement that the referendum against reform of the pension fund is here is not surprising to the bourgeoisie. “During the council debate, the left was unwilling to compromise and rejected the reform,” says FDP national councilor Regine Sauter (57, ZH). She fights for the BVG reform. “It’s about stopping the redistribution that goes against the system. At present, young people finance the pensions of the elderly. That is not the intention in the second pillar.”

In a Blick interview, trade union leader Pierre-Yves Maillard (55, VD) criticized the fact that the insured had to pay higher premiums but were not reimbursed. “With this reform, the pensions of women who work part-time or earn little will finally be strengthened,” Sauter counters.

The vote is expected to take place in March 2024. But it will not be easy for the middle class bloc from the middle class to the SVP. There were already dissidents at the final vote in parliament. SVP faction leader Marco Chiesa (48, TI) abstained, National Councilors Magdalena Martullo-Blocher (53, GR) and Esther Friedli (45, SG) even voted against. Farmers and the hospitality industry are anything but enthusiastic about the pension fund’s plans. “Especially in gastronomy, a lot of people work part-time. So the workers benefit from the reform,” Sauter counters.
