American billionaire Alex Karp is not moving to Switzerland after all.

Nothing comes of high tax revenues for the canton of Schwyz of the American billionaire Alex Karp (55), writes CH Media. The head of the data group Palantir bought a residential building in the municipality of Freienbach SZ in November 2021. The European headquarters of his company are only a few kilometers away in Altendorf SZ.

If the billionaire had registered in Freienbach, the municipalities, the canton and the federal government would benefit from a windfall of several tens of millions of francs. But that is not the case: the entrepreneur moved to the Principality of Liechtenstein, more precisely to the municipality of Triesenberg, as confirmed by Palantirs’ media office to the CH-Media newspaper. The reasons are not given.

Demolition and new construction planned?

Karp would have considered leaving the home in Freienbach and replacing it with a new building, CH Media writes, citing well-informed circles. But Swiss law, among others, spoke against this. The so-called Lex Koller stipulates that foreigners who buy a property in Switzerland must also have their life center there.

Karp’s company Palantir makes data analysis for governments, secret services and private companies such as publisher Ringier, which also publishes Blick. Recently, the company supported Ukraine in the war against Russia by processing troop and weapon movement data. (brother)
