Stalking, repeated tracking, should become a separate criminal offense and can be punished with imprisonment or fines under the Penal Code.

The Legal Committee of the National Council (RK-N) is submitting a preliminary draft for a separate stalking offense in the Criminal Code for consultation, the committee announced on Friday.

Create a fact of «re-enactment»

The original idea was to supplement existing offenses such as threats or coercion accordingly. At the end of April, however, the RK-N decided to instead include a separate crime of “re-enactment” in the Criminal Code and the Military Penal Code.

This is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to three years. The consultation period will last until September 16.

Stalking limits the freedom to organize life

According to the Istanbul Convention, stalking is intentional behavior consisting of repeatedly threatening another person, causing them to fear for their safety.

Persistent pursuit, intimidation or threats result in a person being restricted in their freedom to organize their lives, it said. (SDA/oco)
