“Peace missions are an essential tool of this council for peace and security in the world,” said the head of the Federal Public Service Defence, Civil Protection and Sports (DDPS). She underlined their importance in Africa and announced that Switzerland intends to use its mandate in the most powerful UN body to strengthen cooperation with this region.
“Predictable, sustainable and flexible funding” is needed for the missions, the Swiss defense minister said. Earlier she had thought of the fallen peacekeepers in various countries. After attending the wreath-laying ceremony by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, she asked the Security Council for a moment of silence.
