Clapping is not enough: the nursing staff demand better working conditions.

The corona pandemic has made it clear to us: the nursing staff are indispensable for all of us.

Never before have we as a society been so dependent on our doctors, nurses and pharmacists as during Corona. They worked double and triple shifts until they nearly passed out from exhaustion.

All the more clearly the care initiative was accepted. The result of the vote showed a high degree of consensus and urgent action.

Only the Bundesrat does not seem to be in a great hurry. The first phase of the implementation of the care initiative has already been decided. The Bundesrat is now moving on to the second phase. But nothing has clearly improved for the nursing staff.

This is also apparent from the figures: more than 40 percent of nurses leave the profession prematurely – sometimes forever. The vacancies at the hospitals speak volumes.

So it is high time for the Bundesrat to move forward. He himself should have every interest in it now that there are still experienced nurses in the profession. It is easier and cheaper to keep these people employed than to train new professionals.

Because the pandemic has also shown us that the Bundesrat can act quickly if it has to.
