For former federal councilor Adolf Ogi, a renewed discussion on government reform is necessary. (archive image)

Switzerland should not think it has the best system in the world, former SVP federal councilor Ogi said in an interview published Monday. “The governments of other countries are no dumber than ours.” You have to dare something new and become competitive.

It would also make more sense for Ogi to elect a three- or four-year federal president. The leadership did not always work during the pandemic and subsequent crises. Switzerland immediately responded to outside pressure with defense. “But that’s not a solution. That’s why you have to talk about government reform,” said Ogi.

Just over a year ago, the States Council rejected the expansion of the Bundesrat to nine members, putting an end to the discussion for the time being. The National Council had previously spoken in favor of government reform.
