Tax deduction for green facades and roofs?

Owners of green roofs and facades must be able to deduct the necessary work from the tax in the future. This calls for a motion from the National Council. (archive image)

For National Councilor Greta Gysin (Greens/TI) and seven co-signatories from different parliamentary groups, tax benefits for green roofs and facades have been indicated for various reasons, as stated in the justification of the initiative. Green roofs and facades contribute to reducing air and noise pollution, reducing the rate of discharge of water, improving biodiversity in cities and lowering the ambient temperature. In addition, they help to regulate the indoor temperature of the buildings.

The Federal Council is ready to consider amending the relevant provisions of the ordinance if the National Council passes the motion. He writes this in his statement on the motion that was published on Thursday. Today, the granting of tax benefits for green roofs and facades depends on whether they have sufficient energy saving or environmental protection effects.

Today, cantons can provide deductions for environmental protection and energy-saving measures, provided that the Confederation determines this in cooperation with the cantons. However, green roofs and facades are not explicitly mentioned.
