Military clothing, reconnaissance drones or fighter jets: it quickly adds up to many millions and billions when the Federal Armaments Office Armasuisse gets involved. There may also be a risk that one or the other provider will try to influence the responsible officials with favors.
In the case of Armasuisse, however, such attempts would be doomed to failure. This is the conclusion of the Swiss Federal Audit Office (SFAO) in its latest report. Armasuisse takes adequate precautions to prevent corruption.
Random checks would increase security
The self-declaration applies to both Armasuisse employees and external contractors, the SFAO announced on Monday. However, there is no verification of the correctness and completeness of the self-declaration. For this reason, the financial control proposes arbitrary clarifications.
For her research, she examined nine tenders in the field of land systems, aviation systems and command and reconnaissance systems. Violations were not reported.
The SFAO found that Armasuisse does not have a self-created good business management system. However, there are a large number of documents and regulations that must be observed during the procurement process.
Own instructions for gifts or invitations
Armasuisse is aware of its responsibility in preventing and combating corruption and makes systematic efforts to counter it, going beyond the requirements of the federal government. There are separate instructions for gifts, invitations and other benefits.
The requirements are known to the employees and they apply them. Armasuisse regularly informs all those involved in purchasing. The SFAO would like the declaration of no objection to be updated regularly. Armasuisse implemented previous recommendations, as the audit further praised.
