The GSoA finds it shameful that the political will in Bern is lacking to consistently implement sanctions against Russia.

The war in Ukraine has caused commodity prices to explode, generating billions in profits for companies in Switzerland. Switzerland must therefore take its responsibility in the war in Ukraine.

The group Switzerland without an army (Gsoa) called for this in a resolution on Sunday. The group is demanding that Switzerland tax war profits, introduce embassy asylum for Russian deserters and consistently freeze the funds of oligarchs.

It is shameful that Bern lacks the political will to consistently implement sanctions, said a statement from Gsoa. The bare minimum would be to make the confiscated oligarch funds and the war profits of the resource companies available to Ukraine for reconstruction.

cut back on military finances

Finally, the General Assembly decided on the following major projects. An initiative in the field of army financing will be further elaborated in the near future. For example, the anti-militarists have set their sights on increasing army finances. An initiative could advocate the introduction of a cost brake or cap.

The organization hopes the war will be over by the time the vote is taken. After that, it became more likely that this initiative would also be approved by the more conservative part of the electorate, according to the pacifists.

At the annual meeting in Solothurn, the GSOA also called on the Federal Council to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. This international agreement aims to ban nuclear weapons worldwide. It entered into force in 2021. Switzerland is not a member of this treaty. (SDA/h)
