The FDP in the canton of Aargau submitted the most requests to the cantonal parliament last year – causing the highest costs. Answering all 216 requests from the council’s 140 members cost the taxpayer CHF 289,736.
The FDP faction alone submitted 50 advances, costing CHF 67,266, as shown in the 2022 annual report of the Canton of Aargau. In 2021, the FDP had already taken first place with 35 advances and costs of CHF 51,813.
Costs will increase by 20 percent by 2022
The large councilors of the FDP had demanded to name the costs. In Aargau, since 2001, the administration has been reporting the costs incurred for each individual parliamentary initiative. The costs consist of a standard hourly rate, an additional cost surcharge and a support fee.
All in all, costs in 2022 were 20 percent higher than in the previous year.
The pile parties also incur high costs
The members of the SVP faction were also diligent with 43 advances, which cost 52,056 francs. In third place is the SP faction with 38 advances and costs of 47,042 francs.
Following the GLP with 22 advances (CHF 30,177), the Center with 21 advances (CHF 25,337) and the Greens with 18 advances (CHF 36,779).
The small parties EVP and EDU were also active. The EVP submitted 14 requests (CHF 20,496), the EDU nine requests (CHF 9,830). According to the canton’s annual report, the only attempt by an independent party cost 780 francs. (SDA/sq)
