The work to completely clear the Mitholz BE ammunition depot must now be continued quickly. The responsible committee of the National Council has reversed its decision to suspend the file under pressure from various parties.
For example, last Friday the Swiss Working Group for Mountain Regions (SAB) called on a communiqué from the National Council Security Policy Committee (SIK-N) to reconsider their decision at the end of February.
50 million released again
Funds of 50 million Swiss francs for the purchase of houses to be vacated have been blocked since the decision. This had also caused resentment among the people of Mitholz. This makes it impossible for residents to build a new life elsewhere, according to the municipality.
Now the National Council Committee has made a U-turn. She decided to lift the suspension of the file by a vote of 17 to 8, the parliamentary services announced on Tuesday.
The suspension of up to one year found a majority five weeks ago with 11 votes in favour, 10 against and 4 abstentions. The reason for the decision at the time was that a majority of the committee feared that the eviction had not been investigated thoroughly enough. (SDA/sq)
