Chickens have become a popular pet for many. In addition, they regularly deliver fresh eggs. There are an estimated 70,000 private chicken farms in Switzerland – and the number is constantly growing.
Only: private keepers do not always meet the needs of the chickens. If you want to keep chickens, keep in mind that they need to be cared for every day and they take a lot of time.
Species-oriented livestock farming and containment of animal diseases
The Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (BLV) and the Swiss Animal Protection Service (STS) are therefore jointly launching a national information campaign for species-specific chicken farming. Particular attention is paid to animal welfare, but also to the containment of animal diseases such as bird flu.
On Tuesday morning they want to provide information at a media conference about how private chickens are properly kept. Blick is on site and will report extensively afterwards. (Okay)
