Susanne Vincenz-Stauffacher will not vote in the second elections for the Council of States on April 30.

The St. Gallen FDP National Council member Susannne Vincenz-Stauffacher (56) announced on Wednesday that she would not be available for the second parliamentary election. This marks a duel between Esther Friedli (45, SVP) and Barbara Gysi (58, SP).

In her personal statement, Susannne Vincenz-Stauffacher wrote that she wanted to avoid splitting the middle class vote by her withdrawal. The Freisinnige do that “in view of the fact that after the first vote I was in second place with a large lead over the SP candidate, rather with melancholy”.

SP nominated Gysi

On Tuesday evening, the SP nominated Barbara Gysi for the second vote. It is already clear that Esther Friedli (SVP) will start again on April 30. After counting the votes on Sunday, Franziska Ryser (31, Greens) announced her resignation.

Esther Friedli received 55,660 votes on the first ballot, Susanne Vincenz-Stauffacher received 26,938 and Barbara Gysi 22,167 votes. (SDA)
