The Swiss Officers’ Society called for a bridging fund for the defense budget at its meeting of delegates.

In addition, at the meeting of her delegates on Saturday in Brugg AG, she spoke out in favor of measures to reduce the number of people suitable for civilian service.

According to a statement from the Swiss Officers’ Society (SOG), army chief Thomas Süssli also expressed concern about the expected decrease in army personnel by 20,000 by the end of the decade. The rapid development and expansion of a credible defense capability should no longer be neglected, Süssli said, according to the announcement.

implementation expected

The SOG expects the Federal Council to implement Parliament’s guidelines for increasing the defense budget. A defense budget of 1% of GDP is expected by 2030.

If this goal is not achieved, the SOG calls for research into an interest-bearing bridging fund. This should be paid back once the budget target is reached. (SDA)
