Bundesrat wants to remove barriers for disabled people

Federal Councilor Alain Berset proposes the targets for disability policy for 2023 to 2026.

People with disabilities should be better protected against discrimination in working life and should have easier access to services. The Bundesrat wants to make employers and private individuals responsible for achieving equality there.

The Federal Council announced on Friday that people with disabilities continue to be disadvantaged in their daily lives, for example in the application process.

Employers must take action

The Bundesrat therefore wants to oblige employers to take “reasonable” measures so that employees with disabilities can work on an equal footing.

Likewise, private individuals must ensure that certain services can be used barrier-free by the public. The Federal Council ordered Interior Minister Alain Berset (50) to amend the Disability Equality Act (BehiG) accordingly. It should be available by the end of the year.

This should also include sign language recognition. (SDA/sf)
