Men’s contribution to the household is limited to waste

Even in times of equality, it is still mainly men who take out the rubbish in Switzerland.

Although the results of the market research institute Link show that a clear majority is in favor of more equality between the sexes, everyday life looks different, the institute said in a statement on International Women’s Day on Wednesday.

Most housework is still done by women. And women also feel disadvantaged in everyday working life, partly because a higher workload is seen as a condition for a managerial position, which women more often than men cannot fulfill due to a lack of alternatives in childcare.

Household financing is also a men’s business

When it comes to the division of specific tasks, about three-quarters of those surveyed agree that these should be divided equally between both genders.

When asked who mainly takes on which tasks in a relationship, the men indicate that they are responsible for waste processing and arranging household finances.

According to the research, women are more responsible for washing clothes, doing the dishes, cooking meals and running errands. Women are also mainly responsible for cleaning the household and taking care of the children. (SDA)
