On June 14, 2019, more than half a million people demanded their feminist strike day rights in the largest social mobilization since the 1918 national strike, the National Coordination of the Feminist Strike announced Saturday. Some things started rolling, but others got even worse.
The AHV 21 is just one of many negative examples. For this reason, another major feminist strike was held on June 14 this year. The main demands were approved in Freiburg on Saturday. Requests include a general reduction in paid working hours, an immediate strengthening of the AHV and the abolition of the three-pillar system in old-age provision in favor of one pillar.
Furthermore, the organizers of the women’s strike are calling for nationwide measures to combat gender-specific, sexualized and domestic violence and racist, anti-queer discrimination. Each guardian should also be given at least one year of parental leave per person and per child, and the private health insurance system should be abolished.
Street crowds are necessary for feminist politics in Switzerland, the feminist collectives say in their statement. Together with women’s organizations, organizations for queer people and the trade unions, we want to mobilize many people on June 14 of this year.
