The fact that Vaud’s financial director has always paid her taxes in a tax-friendly way, met with outrage from the political opponents of Valérie Dittli (30).
SP People’s Councilor Ada Marra (49) described Dittli on Twitter as a “state councilor without bottom” who “does not love” the canton of Vaud. SP Vaud chairman Romain Pilloud said the situation was “serious” and that the SP “will ask all questions to shed light on the matter”.
Dittli established her tax residence in Lausanne in early 2022 when she applied for the State Council, as reported by Westschweizer Fernsehen (RTS) on Friday. For the past six years she had paid taxes in her home canton of Zug – despite an active life in the capital of Vaud, for example as an assistant doctor of law at the University of Lausanne or as a central politician.
SP Switzerland campaign manager Lewin Lempert emphatically asked about the slogan of the center party: “Is that this ‘We keep Switzerland together?'”
Center President defends Dittli
Dittli denied tax tourism on TV. As a student at the time, she assumed that the center of her life would remain in Zug. Little did she know that she would become a Councilor of State of Vaud, what her professional career would look like and in which canton she would complete it.
The president of the center of the canton of Vaud, Emilio Lado, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Saturday that Dittli’s tax situation as a student before becoming a state councilor falls within the realm of privacy. She has always paid her taxes and preferred, like “many students in Switzerland”, to keep her tax residence in her home canton until her professional situation has stabilized.
According to Lado, the state council has always been transparent. You have nothing to blame. According to him, attempts are being made to exploit the tax problem for political purposes.
Marc-Olivier Buffat, council member and former party chairman of the FDP, also defended Dittli: “The income of a student, PhD candidate or trainee is low. Talking about tax optimization is not appropriate,” he wrote on Twitter. (SDA/h)
