Residents of the city of Zurich were amazed last week: barely three days after the cantonal elections, the post office brought the documents for the next vote.
There are no municipal proposals to vote before March 12. Nevertheless, an election takes place in the city of Zurich on this date.

In the Glattal school district, a by-election is held for a member of the district school board. In addition, elections will be held for the district (election of a deputy member of the Zurich district council) and for the Reformed Church (renewal elections for the synod and the district church council).
Conscious tax-conscious citizens are now asking themselves: could the voting documents not have been sent with the last mailing and thus saved postage costs? Or can the “election of a deputy member of the Zurich district council” be scheduled for a voting weekend that also includes cantonal templates?
Regulated by law
Only: It’s not that simple, reports the statistics office of the canton of Zurich on request. Because: The election and voting documents must be submitted at least three and a maximum of four weeks before an election.
This is regulated in the federal law (art. 11 paragraph 3) and in the law on political rights (art. 62 paragraph 2). In addition, there are legal deadlines for holding elections and voting.
At the federal level, four dates are set in advance on which votes and elections will take place. Cantonal and municipal ballots will be held usual carried out simultaneously, with the cantons and municipalities being free to set additional dates. (Okay)
