Michael De Vita-Läubli of the Green Liberal Party (GLP) wants to run for the Zurich cantonal council in the February 12 elections. He advertised this on January 11 at the Schwerzenbach ZH train station. He handed out apples, Schöggeli and gummy bears, among other things.
But some gummy bears have expired for more than half a year! June 1, 2022 is the best before date on the package, as “20 minutes” writes.
Remnant of local elections
The Vita-Läubli knew about it. This is a small remnant of the municipal elections in the spring of 2022.
“Since the vegan gummy bears consist of a sugar mixture and a vegetable gelling agent, they are in no way dangerous to health, just harder,” says De Vita-Läubli to “20 minutes”. And: the expiration date is just a guideline anyway.
Don’t want to waste food
With this campaign, the GLP candidate wants to take up its ecological responsibility. Because his party is known to be strongly against food waste. Due to the negative feedback, he will no longer hand out the remaining expired gummy bears.
However, they are not thrown away: The Vita-Läubli simply eats all remaining gummy bears itself. “I’ve already done that as a quality control and I can say: the gummy bears were all nice and soft, tasty and certainly edible.”
