University students who were among the troublemakers would also be brought before the disciplinary committee and would receive an administrative fine, the university said in a statement.

Amaudruz was attacked by about ten hooded people at an event organized by the Geneva debate club on the university grounds. They tried to throw a cake and a foul-smelling liquid at the Vice President of the SVP. The cake could be taken from the hands of the attackers, the liquid splashed into the audience. The Genevan politician then spoke of a “worrying situation” and filed a complaint.

The rectorate condemned the act. The events posed “a direct threat to freedom of expression” and an obstacle to the democratic functioning of society. According to the university, it was the third incident since the spring of 2022 in which a public event on the university grounds was interrupted or prevented because of protesters. A red line has now been crossed.

The student organization Cuae says in a statement that it has not organized the campaign and has not committed itself to it. She does support the political protests within the university. The pie attack had a symbolic character. In addition, the organization opposed the ‘extreme right’ ideology of the SVP.
