The tax burden in the cantons will be lighter

On average across the country, individuals and companies have to relinquish almost every fourth franc to the canton and municipality in the current year. The load exhaustion index is 24.3 percent. That is 0.2 percentage point less than in 2022.

However, the differences from canton to canton are significant, as the federal financial administration wrote on Thursday: the Zug Treasury collects 11.1 percent. The canton of Geneva again had the greatest burden with 33.7 percent.

The tax utilization index represents the tax burden in a canton. It shows how heavily taxable economic power – income, profit and capital growth – is taxed by cantonal and municipal taxes and is therefore no longer available for private use.
