Switzerland will sit on the UN Security Council from January 2023 to December 2024. On June 9 last year, the UN General Assembly in New York voted 187 out of 192 to admit the country to the UN’s main decision-making body.
The Federal Council wants to set four priorities in the UN Security Council. The aim is to promote sustainable peace, protect civilian populations, address climate security and increase efficiency. The state government announced the targets at the end of May. Parliament’s foreign policy committees (APK) were able to comment on key issues.
Switzerland is expected to build bridges and be impartial, Baeriswyl said in an interview with media representatives in Bern.
