Federal councilor apparently wanted to force a change in Swisscom’s board of directors

According to media reports, Communications Minister Simonetta Sommaruga wanted to force a change in Swisscom’s board of directors shortly before her departure.

This “maneuver” should not have been made public: Shortly before her departure, Communications Minister Simonetta Sommaruga (62) apparently wanted to push through a change in Swisscom’s board of directors and use an intimate one.

Renzo Simoni (61), who has represented the federal government as a majority shareholder in the committee since 2017, was faced with his resignation by Federal Councilor Sommaruga, who will remain in office until the end of the year, write the CH-Media newspapers on Saturday.

According to the article, the minister justified the expulsion by saying that Simoni was too far from parliament and the administration. However, some people claimed that Sommaruga wanted to put her general secretary Matthias Ramsauer (59) in a good position before her departure and therefore fired Simoni.

The federal councilors received a letter

Simoni should feel insulted. “This announcement came like the proverbial bolt from the blue,” Simoni is said to have written in a letter he had never received bad feedback from the federal government for his job, which he sent to Federal Councilman Sommaruga in response to his eviction. and her counterpart Ueli Maurer (72) directed.

However, it is not yet clear whether Simoni should actually leave. Swisscom is not commenting. When asked by the SDA news agency, Sommaruga’s office said only that the federal councilor “has not made and would not make any application regarding the Secretary General as a federal representative.”

This week, the chairman of the board of directors of Swisscom, Michael Rechsteiner (59), got involved in the matter. He sent a letter to all seven federal councilors. Write in capital letters: “CONFIDENTIAL.”, write the CH-Media newspapers. It states that Simoni was barely able to represent the interests of the federal government on Swisscom’s board of directors. At the same time, however, he also highly valued Simoni as a member of the Board of Directors.

Swisscom keeps a low profile

At AWP’s request, a Swisscom spokeswoman emphasized that the federal representative on Swisscom’s board of directors had been appointed by the federal government and sent to the committee. He will not be elected by the general meeting and the board of directors “takes note of his appointment”.

There is therefore no comment on the procedure of the Bundesrat. The company does not comment on why Rechsteiner should have turned to the Federal Council about this. (Euro/SDA)
