Popular initiative by vaccine skeptics comes to parliament

Richard Koller, president of the Swiss Freedom Movement, submitted the signatures in December 2021. More than 120,000 signatures were collected for the popular initiative.

According to the Federal Chancellery, the “Stop Mandatory Vaccination” initiative, submitted by the Swiss Freedom Movement (FBS) in mid-December 2021, has come about with about 125,000 valid signatures.

The authors include Lucerne SVP National Councilor Yvette Estermann (55), comedian Marco Rima (61) and vaccine critic Daniel Traptsch. For example, Trappitsch fought animal disease and epidemic laws in the past.

Not only vaccination affected

The referendum calls for the basic right in the constitution that everyone has the freedom to decide for themselves what is injected or implanted in their body. “The data subject should not be penalized for refusing consent, nor should he suffer social or professional disadvantages,” the text of the initiative reads.

According to the initiative committee, the demand does not only relate to the Covid 19 pandemic. It should also apply “to vaccines, to chips, to digital information in the body”.

There is no compulsory vaccination

In its statement on the initiative, the Bundesrat writes that the text of the initiative “goes far beyond vaccination thematically”. “This would lead to legal uncertainty in many areas of society.” The cabinet cites as examples the taking of fingerprints, housing asylum seekers or caring for a person who is incompetent.

The Federal Council also notes that there is already no compulsory vaccination. The only provision in the Epidemics Act that has been popularly approved is that, for example, healthcare workers can be ordered to move to another ward of the hospital if they are not vaccinated. (SDA)
