“He belongs in court instead of the Bundesrat”

SVP Federal Council candidate Albert Rösti (55) narrowly survived the hearings on Tuesday when a Zurich city council dealt with him roughly. Rösti would rather be tried for crimes against our future instead of being put in the Bundesrat, says Groen Dominik Waser (24) on Twitter on Wednesday.

Taking opponents to court because of their political opinion is not exactly a democratic position. Waser puts it into perspective: “A court should decide whether I am right with my accusation.”

Rösti’s policy leads to enormous damage

The young politician does not think he has the wrong tone. Of course it is a provocative statement. “But what Rösti has done in recent years through his politics and lobbying for fossil fuels leads to enormous damage to the environment and huge social costs,” says Waser.

The reason for his accusations was that Rösti, known as Ämtlisammler, was chairman of Swissoil, the association of Swiss fuel dealers, for many years. He is also chairman of Auto-Switzerland, the association of car importers. And that goes against the current of the green.

But: if Rösti is elected to the Bundesrat, he must give up the mandates. There is no reason for Waser to relax: “There is far too little talk about what he did before. Precisely because there is a risk that he could end up with the environmental service.” Someone like Rösti is unbearable for him in the Federal Council.

Not offensive

As much as a thorn in the side of a Federal Councilor Rösti Waser may be, Waser cannot name a specific criminal offense. But: “Rösti is partly responsible for the fact that my personal freedom and that of many others is already much more limited and will be in the future.”

Rusti would violate our federal constitution, which guarantees the right to life, personal liberty and social responsibility. Only: To bring a lawsuit, Switzerland should have a constitutional court. But she hasn’t, as Waser also admits.
