As of November 22 this year, Swissmedic had received a total of 16,212 reports of suspected adverse reactions, as the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products announced on Friday.

Under the Therapeutic Products Act, healthcare professionals are required to report serious adverse reactions or previously unknown adverse reactions to Swissmedic. Nearly half of the reports were made by medical professionals. The rest comes from those directly affected, patients or family members.

Two-thirds of people affected were between the ages of 18 and 64 – with an average of 50.2 years. Nearly 20 percent were older than 65 years. Only 1.1 percent of the reports were in the age group of 12 to 17 years. Separated by gender, women were in the majority (62.1 percent).

More than two-thirds of the reports related to Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine Spikevax, with this vaccine being the most common with about 63 percent of all vaccine doses administered in Switzerland. With the Pfizer/Biontech Comirnaty vaccine, it was about 37 percent.

The most commonly reported adverse reactions were fever, headache, fatigue, chills, nausea and dizziness. In 227 of the severe cases, death was reported with a variable time interval after vaccination. The deceased were on average 78.8 years old. (SDA)
