Immigration from third countries is restricted in the interest of local workers. Before setting quotas for people from third countries outside the EU and EFTA and Great Britain, the federal government listened to the cantons and social partners, the Federal Council announced on Wednesday.
With the quotas, the state government supports the stabilization and strengthening of the economy against the background of the shortage of skilled labor and the war in Ukraine.
This means that the economy could attract 8,500 qualified specialists from third countries in the coming year. 4,500 of them receive a residence permit B. Another 4,000 can usually work in Switzerland for less than a year with a residence permit L for short stay.
