A poll of climate activists before the Zurich Supreme Court on Friday was over quickly: they all refused to testify. Your lawyers demand a full acquittal.
The activists are accused of blocking the entrance to Credit Suisse at Paradeplatz in July 2019. They wanted to demonstrate against their investments in fossil fuels. The public prosecutor wants to see her sentenced to a suspended fine for coercion and trespassing.
The eight of the nine suspects, one missing due to a doctor’s appointment, were very silent. Sometimes they didn’t even give personal information. Most come from the Geneva region.
Prior to the interrogation, the suspect had requested that climate experts be heard as witnesses. However, the judge rejected the request. “A thermometer is enough to see that the climate is warming,” he said. Because the trial is progressing so quickly, the Supreme Court should deliver its verdict on Friday afternoon.
Activists did not accept the latest verdict
The court followed his requests in May 2021 and convicted all nine of them for coercion and in some cases trespassing. The subdistrict court judge showed understanding at the time. Such a sit-in is still illegal.
