Women did not want to be elected simply because they are women, said former federal councilor Moritz Leuenberger (76) on Wednesday afternoon in the program ‘Tagssprach’ on the Swiss-German radio SRF. The decision of the SP party leadership not to admit men as candidates seems undemocratic and decided from above. It was “too rigid” – like a dictate.

But that is the result of a kind of “Twitterization” of communication: everything must be made public as soon as possible. Leuenberger warned that there should have been a thought process within the party first.
Yet it is clear that a woman should succeed Federal Councilor Simonetta Sommaruga (62). But the question is how to convey that. Communication can always go wrong.
Jositsch should also be allowed to participate
From Leuenberger’s point of view, anyone should be able to run for the Bundesrat – including men like the Zurich SP State Councilor Daniel Jositsch (57). And it is his right to spark a discussion about discrimination.
Friday of this week is decisive for the election of the Bundesrat: the SVP determines its final fate, the selection of its candidates, and the SP determines the criteria for its fate. (SDA)
