Why is it so quiet about this affair? An Indian hacker gang was allegedly ordered in May 2022 to spy on Federal President Ignazio Cassis and his Vice President Alain Berset. The British Bureau of Investigative Journalism and the Sunday Times made this public a week ago.
In fact, according to the investigation, the client was a private detective from Western Switzerland who works for well-known companies in Geneva. He and other people – also on behalf of Qatar – are said to have ordered cyber attacks against senior government officials, heads of sports associations and journalists. If true, it would be one of the largest espionage cases ever discovered.
The alleged customer from Geneva is now speaking with SonntagsBlick. According to his own statements, he has reported defamation to the Times journalists, saying: “The article is based on false information. Circles in India specifically want to discredit me for being involved in a case against Indian hackers.” In 2021, the Geneva resident even testified in a British court against a hacker network from India.
The journalists who exposed the spy case are holding onto their account. They would have evidence for their allegations. And what does the federal government say? Nothing. They do not comment on “speculation” in the media.
