An over-representation of Latin Switzerland in the Federal Council when Baume-Schneider took up residence would be acceptable if temporary, the former ambassador said. “It just means that if Alain Berset leaves, he will be replaced by a Swiss-German.” It is high time that Jura was given a seat in the Bundesrat.
The canton of Zurich, which is normally always represented in the Federal Council, could lose a seat. According to Loretan, however, there is no right to a seat in the Federal Council, “an interruption from time to time will not hurt and will not plunge Switzerland into an institutional crisis”.
