Federal President Ignazio Cassis, left, surprisingly met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj.

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EDA) has launched criminal charges against unknown persons. It confirmed a corresponding report from the newspaper “Le Temps”. The complaint concerns a possible violation of professional secrecy by someone from the authorities.

The injury is said to have arisen around Federal President Ignazio Cassis (61) travel to Ukraine on October 20. According to the Westschweizer Zeitung, the colleagues of the Federal Council had only been informed of the delicate journey the day before. However, Blick was aware of the travel program.

Meeting with Zelenskyy

Cassis met his counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky (44), Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal (47) and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba (41) in Kiev during his one-day surprise visit, traveling by train from Poland.

A trip to Kiev planned for the same day by German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (66) had been postponed at short notice, reportedly for security reasons.

Due to the ongoing investigation, the EDA does not want to say more about it. (SDA/pt)
