Instead of Swiss crosses, it is now decorated with contour lines in relief: the federal government presented the new pass today. It is now available and can be ordered from the cantonal passport offices or from the Swiss representations abroad. The price for the new design remains the same.
The new passport should characterize Switzerland: close to home and at the same time open to the world. He invites you on a virtual journey through the 26 cantons, “from the Alpine peaks to the valleys”. The Fifth Switzerland, as the Swiss are popularly known abroad, is also featured on one page.
Visible security
The pass not only has a new design, but is also more secure. The Federal Police Office (Fedpol) reports that it is based on the latest technologies for security functions. The visual security features are visible under UV light, but are also visible to the naked eye.
In addition: As before, there is a microchip in the cover of the passport. This is where the biometric data is stored. It can only be read by a device that guarantees encrypted transmission. Fedpol ensures that the fingerprints are specially protected. Switzerland only grants access to countries that have the same level of data protection as Switzerland.
New ID design to follow
If your passport has not yet expired, you do not need to order a new one right away. All ID cards remain valid until their expiry date.
The ordinary passport, the diplomatic passport, the service passport, the refugee travel document and the passport for foreigners living in Switzerland all have a new look. Only the provisional passport has not yet been updated. A new design for the ID will follow in the first half of 2023. (Tom)
