The PvdA apologizes, but Van Dijk no longer wants to be a member of parliament

The PvdA has lifted the sanction against former MP Gijs van Dijk. The party executive admits that reports of transgressive behavior have been handled carelessly, but Van Dijk has decided he no longer wants to be a member of parliament.

Van Dijk left the House of Representatives on February 8 after women accused him of illegal behavior. Last week, the PvdA’s appeals committee concluded that the board had been lax in handling the complaints.

The party board is now complying with this result. “The party executive agrees that it is about reports from private life. These are not reports of sexually abusive behavior. The party executive regrets that this impression was not removed sooner.”
