Lemon Bottle is injected under the skin and is said to help against fat deposits, such as a double chin.

Swissmedic warns against the fat removal injection with Lemon Bottle. Due to the lack of approval, the preparation is not approved for sale in Switzerland and may not be used.

Because Lemon Bottle is injected before use, the syringe falls under the Medicines Act, regardless of how deeply it penetrates the skin, Swissmedic announced on Tuesday. The product may therefore not be marketed as a cosmetic.

Swissmedic also analyzed product samples in its laboratory and found that the ingredients did not match the declaration and were even different depending on the packaging. In one sample only the substance caffeine was found, while in another sample none of the mentioned ingredients were found. In this case there is counterfeiting. A medical effect of the injection has not been scientifically proven.

Kim Kardashian and Robbie Williams added to the hype

The Lemon Bottle fat removal injection is being advertised on the Internet and on social media for reducing fat in problem areas. According to the company’s own information, the product contains a number of natural ingredients. Online providers say the “minimally invasive treatment” helps “remove small pockets of fat, such as a double chin.” A 10 milliliter bottle of the product can be purchased online for around 20 to 30 francs.

The Swiss Institute for Therapeutic Products warns that its use poses a health risk. Providers are clearly jumping on the hype surrounding medical fat injections for the treatment of diabetes and obesity: Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk quickly became one of the most valuable companies in the world thanks to its Wegovy and Ozempic weight loss injections. The products require a prescription, but there was still a lot of hype surrounding the preparations. Stars such as Elon Musk (52), Kim Kardashian (43) and Robbie Williams (50) praised the injections as a miracle cure.

Competent authorities can seize illegal medicines. The inter-agency expert committee on demarcation issues consists of experts from Swissmedic, the Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs, the Federal Office for Public Health, the Cantonal Pharmacists’ Association and the Association of Swiss Cantonal Chemists.
