Union boss Pierre-Yves Maillard (56) was the big vote winner when he voted yes to the 13th AHV pension. In the Blick interview, the Vaudois SP Council of States insists on a quick introduction.
Blick: Mr Maillard, the 13th AHV pension must be paid out once a year from 2026. Then the “Maillard money” will make the seniors happy!
Pierre Yves Maillard: (laughs) The 13th AHV is a national pension! The yes vote was a collective success. However, we demand that the “thirteenth” be paid out as early as 2025. A payout at the end of each year makes the most sense.
The Federal Council is discussing two options. Which one do you want?
We want solidarity-based financing through wage rates. This is extremely social, because more than 90 percent of insured people receive more pension than they have ever paid in wage premiums. This also applies to the boys. In addition, wage contributions in other social insurance policies tend to decrease. The normal Büezer will hardly notice the AHV percentage.
With the wage percentage variant, retirees escape unscathed. That’s not fair.
It’s unfair to pit generations against each other! Anyone who is active today will one day also receive a 13th pension. And we should not forget how much the grandparents have done and continue to do for the country. Just think of the childcare that grandparents provide to ease the burden on families. You’ve earned the “Thirteenth”!
The Federal Council wants to reduce the federal contribution to the AHV. What do you think?
The public sector contribution should not be reduced. If the federal government wants to pay less, the cantons must contribute. With their 13th pension they collect more income tax. This money must flow back to the AHV fund. What irritates me is that the Federal Council spends billions more on the military, but regrets the money for the AHV.
The FDP is against additional resources unless structural measures are taken, such as a higher retirement age.
Such resistance is wrong. A higher retirement age is off the table after the clear no to the initiative of the Young Liberals. Not only the FDP, but also the SVP should understand this. Citizens must come to their senses and offer their support for social AHV financing now. Anything else is a disregard for the will of the people.
Further additional funding is already being considered for the next AHV reform. What is needed there?
This year the AHV will already receive more money from VAT and with the current proposals it will be in good financial shape in the coming years. In the medium term, the Mitte proposal for a tax on financial market transactions is certainly interesting.
