According to the Federal Council, further efforts are needed to further improve the career paths of young scientists. The state government wrote this in its report “For equal opportunities and the promotion of young academics”, which was approved on Wednesday. This was requested by the Commission for Science, Education and Culture of the National Council (WBK-N). The National Council has submitted a corresponding postulate.
Based on an external basic report, the report states that a large number of measures to promote young scientists have been initiated and implemented. However, further efforts are needed.
Contemporary personnel policy
The Swiss University Conference (SHK) has adopted principles for promoting young talent and launched a nationwide cooperation project. The federal government and the cantons support this approach, as the Federal Council wrote.
For the 2025-2028 funding period, SHK plans to launch a project coordinated by Swiss universities worth up to 20 million francs. This is intended to further develop and implement action plans to promote young talent at universities, specifically with a view to the postdoc phase.
For technical colleges and educational universities, the aim is to further strengthen cooperation with universities in the doctoral phase and to further develop the dual competency profile.
As a second measure, the SHK adopted principles at the end of 2023 for a contemporary personnel and employment policy for young scientists at universities, a constructive work culture and early career planning.
Further measures discussed fall within the competence of the individual universities and are recommended to the relevant actors there for further investigation, as the Federal Council wrote. (SDA)
