More than 30 recruits currently serving at the Thun BE and Jassbach BE military bases have fallen ill with gastrointestinal flu. This is what the military says. Recruits from Panzerschule 21, the Officer School Tank/Artillery 22 and the Maintenance School 43 in Thun, as well as the Electronic Operations School 64 in Jassbach are affected.
The sick people are separated from the rest of the troops and are cared for by medical professionals. Stomach flu usually develops within 48 hours with nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.
Families are not allowed to visit
The visiting days of the Panzer Grenadier Occupation Company, the Panzer Grenadier Combat Company and the Panzer Staff Company of Panzerschule 21 in Thun planned for this Saturday must be cancelled.
From today, the day of the members of the Electronic Operations School 64 will take place in Jassbach, which is not scheduled until March 15. The Army Medical Service is monitoring developments on site and will take further measures if necessary in consultation with the responsible commanders.
The military has not yet revealed the cause of the mass illness. Bacteria or viruses are usually responsible for gastrointestinal infections. Gastrointestinal infections often clear up on their own within a few days with an easily digestible diet. (sf)
