After the yes vote against the 13th AHV initiative, the left and the unions can hope for the next vote. The next proposal for social expansion will be presented to the people on June 9, with the SP’s premium aid initiative.
The popular initiative ‘Maximum 10 percent of income for health insurance premiums’ certainly has a chance, according to research by Tamedia. 64 percent of respondents would currently vote yes or rather yes. Currently, only 21 percent reject the initiative, the rest have not yet made a decision.
The support extends far into the civilian camp
Of boys up to 34 years old, 42 percent say yes and 22 percent say yes. For people over 65, this is 50 and 22 percent respectively. The yes share is lowest among FDP voters, at 43 percent, and highest among SP supporters, from whom the initiative came. Here, 88 percent say yes or rather yes.
Like the 13th AHV pension, the premium reduction initiative also received strong support from SVP and Mitte, with 60 percent yes each. The slogan of the center party is also interesting in this respect: with 166 votes to 27, the deputies recently said no to the SP initiative. But in addition to the 27 yes votes, there were 22 abstentions. As a result, almost a quarter lost their loyalty to the party leadership.
And this despite the fact that the SP initiative costs the federal government and the cantons another 4.5 billion francs to make premiums cheaper.
The cuts are well received
The center of party leader Gerhard Pfister (61) is looking forward to a vote victory. The party’s popular initiative ‘For lower premiums – reducing costs in the healthcare system’ is well received by 72 percent of the government: 37 percent would have said yes at the time of the survey, 35 percent would have said yes.
Here the differences per party supporter are significantly smaller. According to the survey, 67 percent of FDP supporters and 71 percent of SP sympathizers are in favor. The GLP, the Greens and the SVP are in between when it comes to values. And among the initiators of the Center Party, approval is highest at 81 percent.
The settlement type and age do not show any serious differences in this template, as the research also shows. There are also no significant differences in education: approval is lowest at 68 percent among people with a university education and highest at 77 percent among those with a compulsory education diploma.
Four assists on June 9
On June 9, voters will vote on four proposals. In addition to the two popular initiatives already mentioned to reduce the premium pressure, there will also be a vote on the referendum against the energy decree. The fourth template is the initiative to end mandatory vaccination.
From February 29 to March 3, 30,384 people from all over Switzerland took part in the survey. It took place as part of the follow-up investigation into the March 3 federal vote.
