Thierry Burkart, what are you currently learning that you are not yet very good at?
To ride. This has been a wish of mine for a long time.
Which discipline?
In addition to horse riding, also dressage. I try to exercise one to three times a week.
What would you have liked to be as a child?
Cop. They impressed me. Or Formula 1 drivers.
Who were you in love with as a teenager?
For rock stars like Metallica.
Your best gift as a child?
A knight’s castle from Lego.

In high school, some friends nicknamed me Dieter.
Dieter?
Thierry means Dietrich in German. Even today, few Gymi friends call me that.
When was the last time you cried?
When someone close to me died.
When was the last time you prayed?
I pray regularly. What and for what – that remains a secret between the Lord God and me.
What event changed your life?
There were a few. Most recently, three years ago I moved in permanently with my partner Janine and her two sons. According to the motto: I marry a family.
Are you married now?
No, we’re still young (laughs).
Who were you jealous of recently?
To our Bernese Mountain Dog Baila. When I’m working from home on a Sunday morning and she’s sleeping on the floor next to me and snoring.
What do you spend the most money on?
For the mortgage.

I admire the former Prime Minister of England, Winston Churchill, for his steadfastness.
What should not be missing in your household?
Focus water and a piece of Gruyère.
What did your room look like when you were 16 years old?
The walls were covered with posters of rock and heavy metal bands. Furthermore, it was orderly, according to the motto: Keep order, and order will keep you.
Would you rather be more likeable or intelligent?
The form of intelligence that is unsympathetic cannot be intelligence.
How would you like to die?
With my loved ones.
What are buses supposed to be for?
When people on a crowded train only reluctantly leave the seat where their bag is, after you have asked them about it.

With “Gummibärli” that is my addiction.

I look at my tablet or mobile phone, read the latest news or watch a movie.

Three come to mind: Tatar, very spicy. Sushi. And veal liver with rösti.
What compliment have you received recently?
That I can get to the core of complex relationships with expertise. I received the compliment from a citizen who approached me on the street.
What is your favorite game?
I like to play games or pantomime with friends – that is, guessing terms. The later in the evening, the funnier it gets.
What quality would you rather not have?
At my age, people have made peace with their own characteristics. That doesn’t mean I won’t keep working on myself (laughs).
Do you have a tick?
I don’t know if it’s a tic, but when I don’t have a watch on I feel naked.
What should be written on your gravestone?
“Tempus fugit, amor manet” – time passes, love remains.
