The initiative aims to reverse the ban on the construction of new nuclear power plants, which was passed by voters in 2017. The initiative committee states that the environmentally and climate-friendly combination of hydropower and nuclear energy was unnecessarily abandoned at the time. In the future, Switzerland needs technology neutrality without any restrictions on thinking, environmentally friendly electricity and clear responsibilities for electricity security.

The initiative was launched from civil circles. The committee includes representatives of the SVP, FDP, Mitte and various business associations. The question is whether the Federal Council or Parliament will develop a counter-proposal to the initiative.
