Anyone who submits a building application in the canton of Zurich will soon be able to do so completely paperless and digitally: the government council has adjusted the legal basis.

The canton has been operating this platform since 2020. But while 54 of Zurich’s 160 cities and municipalities now offer an electronic building permit process, it is not yet completely paperless.

In accordance with the existing legal basis, a handwritten signature and additional paper files always had to be submitted with the building application. The government council has now amended two regulations to make full digitalization possible, it writes in its announcement.

This will modernize, streamline and simplify the processing of construction applications for all involved, construction director Martin Neukom (Greens) is quoted in the statement. It is one of the most complex digitalization projects in the canton.

If there are no objections to the adjustments to the regulations, the entire regulatory package should enter into force on April 1, 2024, according to the communication. From this moment on, the first municipalities can process building permits paperlessly via “eBaugesucheZH”. All cities and municipalities must then switch to electronic processing via this platform within three years. (SDA)
