With the idea of placing an indoor swimming pool in the shell of the musical theater, the Basel government wants to kill two birds with one stone. In doing so, she would be renouncing the unloved theater that she took over from the financially ailing trade fair organizer MCH Group; and it would meet decades of demand for an indoor pool with a 50-meter pool.
However, there is resistance to these plans. Among other things, a popular initiative was created to save the theater. However, a timely vote is not possible because the government, with the consent of the Grand Council, has agreed to be consulted on the content of the initiative – which will delay the project for months.
