Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen supports Switzerland’s efforts to hold a peace summit in Ukraine.

Van der Bellen provided information about the telephone conversation on the X platform (formerly Twitter). Amherd presented the plans for the peace summit in mid-January at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, GR.

Amherd had to cancel her inauguration visit to the Austrian capital Vienna, planned for Friday, due to corona. A new date will be agreed soon, it was said. Traditionally, the new Swiss Federal Presidents make their first foreign visit to Austria. The Austrian-Swiss neighborhood is “a proven friendship,” says Van der Bellen on X, formerly Twitter.

In addition to the peace summit, the telephone conversation also discussed the upcoming negotiations on relations between the EU and Switzerland, Van der Bellen said. The two countries’ neighborhood “is based on close human, economic and political ties.” Van der Bellen emphasized that Switzerland is also “an important partner” for Austria at European and global level.
