What a match! In the preliminary round of the European Handball Championship in Germany, the Swiss handball team caused a surprise the day before yesterday. With a draw against France, Switzerland took a point off the Olympic champion and multiple world champion.
Among the Swiss fans who traveled to Berlin to cheer on the national team was SVP Federal Councilor Lukas Reimann (41). But the cheering in the stands got him nowhere. The security forces did not allow the SVP member to enter the stadium. The reason: a Swiss flag that is too large!
Handball fan Reimann wanted to hang the flag, which usually flutters in the wind in his garden in Wil SG, in the stadium. “I’ve taken it to countless games and never had a problem with it,” Reimann says. But the flag with the Swiss cross was apparently a thorn in the side of the German organizers. All discussion was pointless: the flag had to stay outside.
He made the North Macedonians happy
However, Reimann did not want to go to the stadium without the fan accessory. “When I go to a match in Germany, I also want to hang up the flag,” he explains.
And so it happened that an SVP member in Berlin made a foreigner happy. Reimann says he sold his ticket to a North Macedonian who could use it to watch his team’s match. You can attend multiple matches with one ticket. “He was really happy.” (lha/kre)
