Former SP municipal councilor Katharina Altas (56) of Bern does not want to join the city council of Bern. She announced on Thursday in a juicy press release that she was withdrawing her candidacy.
The reason for their dissatisfaction is that the party leadership and the search committee have already recommended SP national councilor Matthias Aebischer (56) for election. “With this election advice, the deputies of the SP city of Bern were deprived of the opportunity to have a choice and were therefore also denied the opportunity to judge that they had chosen the correct candidacy,” Altas said in a statement on Thursday.
“Rejective” behavior
She continued to write that she would not have shied away from confrontation with other candidates. But with Aebischer’s unanimous recommendation by the party leadership, a tour of the SP sections would be “just a farce.” Altas describes the behavior of her own party leadership as “denial”.
The Bernese SP woman made her municipal council ambitions public last December. Altas served in Bern’s city parliament for about ten years until the end of 2022.
Stefan Jordi (52), former chairman of the Bernese Social Democrats and parliamentary group leader in the Grand Council, also announced that he was interested in running for office. He told Blick on Thursday that he still had to think about whether he would stick to his candidacy.
At the beginning of January, the party leadership unanimously supported Aebischer’s candidacy. The meeting of delegates will have the final say on March 25.
The election of the government of the city of Bern will take place on November 24. Former SP municipal councilor Michael Aebersold (62) is no longer active. (she)
