So now: outgoing SVP president Marco Chiesa (49) has announced that he will run for the city council in Lugano TI in April. This was confirmed by the president of the Ticino SVP, Piero Marchesi (42), upon request by the Keystone-SDA news agency.
The part-time office is a good addition to the work as a member of the Ticino Council of States. It is the right time and Lugano is his birthplace, Chiesa told CH Media newspapers on the sidelines of a meeting of the Ticino SVP in Maggia TI on Wednesday evening.
Fight between SVP and Lega
An election campaign is currently underway in Lugano between the sister parties Lega and SVP, it was said. Chiesa had already done very well in Lugano in the elections for the Council of States last autumn, and therefore an election for the municipal council would be likely. The current mayor of Lugano is Michele Foletti (Lega).
Chiesa from Ticino announced at the end of last year that he would not seek re-election as SVP president. (SDA)
