The second national Palestine meeting took place in Basel on Saturday afternoon.

Protesters are once again taking to the streets to show their solidarity with Palestine. This time in Basel – on Saturday afternoon about 3,000 participants from all over Switzerland gathered. At 2 p.m. the theater square was full. The procession started shortly after 2.40 pm and would lead to the barracks via the Wettstein Bridge.

“There are thousands of people here!” a reader reporter tells Blick. But the mood is very peaceful. In the reader’s photos, people stand close together on the streets of Basel.

Protesters demand a ceasefire

The participants followed a call from the new national umbrella organization Switzerland-Palestine, which was founded after the first national rally in Bern last November and which, according to its own information, consists of around 80 associations and interest groups.

The demonstrators are demanding, among other things, an immediate ceasefire and Switzerland’s commitment to military and economic sanctions against the State of Israel in the UN Security Council. In a call for the meeting, organizers spoke of an “ongoing genocide in Gaza.” (SDA/dzc)
