“Yes, I want to! “I’m running!” says Marcel Dettling (42). Together with his family and the party, he came to the conclusion that he wanted to become SVP president. He also announces the launch of a new initiative.
The SVP needs a new president after the current Ticino State Councilor Marco Chiesa (49) announced his resignation from the top of the largest Swiss party at the end of 2023. This after only four years. Chiesa is said to be interested in a position in the city council of Lugano TI.
He quit four years ago
Since then, Dettling has been considered the crown favorite. But four years ago he was courted by SVP greats like Christoph Blocher (83) and Toni Brunner (49) – and turned them down. Instead, he served as campaign manager. And it was extremely successful: the SVP managed to increase its voter share from 25.6 to 27.9 percent.
Now the farmer from Oberiberg SZ is going all out and wants to be at the top of the SVP. You can read here in the exclusive Blick interview how his change came about, what goals he sets for himself as party chairman and where his best ideas come from.
